8 camping cookware sets we love
While more basic than what you find in a typical kitchen, camping cookware sets can still cook delicious, nutritious meals. They’re also more sustainable than plastic cookware and help keep trails and campgrounds healthier and cleaner. I’m a professional mountain guide and van-lifer, and camping cookware sets aren’t just what I cook with on weekend trips. They’re what I use almost every day, and I prefer to use durable cookware that is versatile enough to use on many different types of trips.

Why we like it: The Lodge Cast Iron Combo Cooker comes with a deep skillet and a fryer that, together, creates a Dutch oven. Dutch ovens cook very evenly, allowing you to cook food like stews and baked bread. Cast iron is also one of the most long-lasting cookware materials; I’m the second generation to use my own cast iron.
The Lodge Cast Iron Combo Cooker comes preseasoned with vegetable oil, so it's nonstick and ready to use. It’s also PTFE- and PFOA-free and can be used for campfire cooking.
Keep in mind: The Cast Iron Combo Cooker is by far the heaviest camping cookware set on the list. Cast iron also needs some simple maintenance to keep it rust-free and nonstick.
Product details: Includes: Deep skillet, fryer | Weight: 12.9 lbs | Materials: cast iron

The Drop: Unbound Merino Active Line
It’s a big EDC market out there, and tons of awesome gear is released all the time. We made The Drop to help you discover the latest and greatest essentials worth a spot in your EDC.
Many athletic clothing brands often use synthetic materials as part of their apparel lineup. You’ll see things like “quick-drying,” “odor-resistant,” and “breathable” as part of their features, leading you to believe that these high-performance garments were exquisitely engineered to have those invaluable features to assist you in your workouts.
But nature actually figured all of this out centuries ago. Merino sheep are a fantastic fluffy source of some of the most performant wool on the planet, and many clothing brands—like Unbound Merino—have put it to good use. Merino wool is natural, sustainable, and has vastly superior properties over similar materials used in clothing, even those oriented to athletic pursuits. It insulates well, is soft but not scratchy, is anti-static, hydrophilic (it can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture while still feeling dry), and, best of all, anti-odor too. Add those up and it’s a spectacular material to use for even the most demanding clothing.
Unbound Merino’s new Active Line is all this and more, introducing a lineup of athletic wear for both men and women to be the last gym clothes they’d need. All of merino’s best features come to play in a collection that includes shirts, tanks, and shorts for every activity, with odor resistance, moisture-wicking, fast-drying, and lightweight packability, allowing the material to shine while you work up a sweat. Clean lines and neutral colors pair with thoughtful features like raglan sleeve cuts and split hems to maximize their utility in and out of the gym. And when you’re done with your sets, Unbound Merino has an entire catalog of apparel to level up the rest of your wardrobe.
What we like: Merino wool has all the benefits of performance clothing while being all-natural and sustainable, and cuts and designs specifically for active users are a welcome addition to the gym bag.
What to watch out for: Like most merino wool apparel, the material still comes with a bigger price tag compared to most regular cotton or synthetic clothing. The advantage is, due to its reusability, you don’t need to buy many to last days’ and weeks’ worth of workouts. Also note that the Active Line is currently on pre-order and will ship in early May.
Final verdict: More merino good, purpose-designed for the gym even better.

The summer arts fest U.R. Art had it final soiree on Sunday at Bergamot Station, featuring an array of live painters, killer DJs, food trucks and colorful fashion venders. The artful affair, which featured a creative crowd, definitely lived up to the event name.
After producing a lot of groundbreaking House music, Soul Clap finally set up their own label ‘Soul Clap Records‘. Get to know something about their idea and intention behind it and some artitsts that Soul Clap intergreated into their lovely label family.
In addition to that the labels first release holder Night Plane and his follower Nick Monaco tell about their liaison with the genius Soul Clap duo.
About the label:
In the beginning, before we began our funky future, the legacies of DJs past and present spoke to these two Boston brothers from other mothers with a resounding SOUL CLAP! Riding this vibration, we set forth, records in hand, into the world of rave. We danced, we made music and finally after years of preparation in the DJ booth we’ve gained the peace, love, knowledge and understanding to write our own musical future. From this day onward Soul Clap Records is born: a place of mystery, art and experimentation. A home for our music and our many aliases and collaborations. A world of artistic development where we proudly present to you the talent of Night Plane. At the helm of this endeavor is long time friend Meg Whitney, and of course Eli Goldstein and Charlie Levine of Soul Clap.
What are you doing this holiday?
This is my fourth year in a row spending my holidays with my wife's family in Caracas. I'm Jewish, but they're Catholic and it's been super fun to get to celebrate Christmas!
Do you have a particular family holiday tradition?
Down here Christmas is the most important holiday of the year. Everyone takes most of December off work and spends the month with their family. Drinking whiskey, making Hallacas, eating Pan de Jamon and dancing to Gaita music.
New mix! Hailing from San Francisco, Navid Izadi brings multiple genres together in his tracks. His list of influences always resonating through his productions. But his creative output doesn’t stop there. Besides Dj’ing and producing groovy tracks Navid Izadi has done a few vocal features on tracks from the likes of Soul Clap and PillowTalk. He writes all of the lyrics himself, by the way.
His Feelin’ Purple EP, which was released on Wolf+Lamb Records, is the outcome of Izadi’s broad variation of influences. The catchy title track has a nu-disco meets mellow funk feeling on it and his vocals add some R&B flavor to the mix. With a low pace on the tracks, the EP just makes you want to vibe out. But it also includes Soul Clap’s interpretation of the title track, which is a little more up-tempo and has rough edges on the drums. With other releases on Soul Clap – and Touch Of Class Records the multi-talented Izadi is one to keep an eye out for.
On November 18th Navid will be featured on No Regular Play’s Endangered Species Remixes Vol I, with his remix to Won’t Quit by No Regular Play.
Next up on our guest mix series we have a very special mix in the Caribbean disco stylings of FSQ, or Funk Syle Quality if you are not into that whole brevity thing. FSQ are Soul Clap Records companions in the highest order, so expect some of the finest disco selections and indie dance tunes to move your body and groove.
Nick starts things off with a graceful Eka Pada Rajakapotasana posture. Nick Monaco's Facebook bio declares his personal credo: "the weirder, the funkier, the better." While many DJs and producers in the house and techno world bask in chin-stroking and solemnity, this San Francisco up-and-comer has been pressing records and playing DJ sets that reveal his quirkiness, innocence, and utter originality. It follows, then, that his productions have been snapped up by labels known for funky music and goofy personalities, like Soul Clap, Wolf + Lamb, and Dirtybird.
He got his start in the Bay Area, where he grew up building beats in his bedroom for local MCs and throwing down sets at the most raucous house parties he could find. He scavenged for as much music as he could consume, which strengthened his eclectic taste and irreverent style. And it wasn't long before the Soul Clap guys took Nick under their wing and started releasing his music.
Among the Soul Clap gang, Nick is known as the "resident butterfly," because he's a beacon that exudes positive vibes and grooving beats. They also told us that he loves nudity and lipstick, and although we're not sure what that has to do with being a butterfly, we were certainly intrigued, so we jumped at the chance to chat with the budding star.
Hey LA peeps, Wolf+Lamb make a return this weekend courtesy of We Need You. The New York duo will play a rare extended set at a TBA location, anyone who was at the debut We Need You LA event, which hosted Soul Clap in early Summer, will know this crew gets it right.
Wolf+Lamb are heading West on the back of releasing their LP Versus.
As a bike messenger I rely on my Wabi Lightning SE (aka Pumpkin Spicy) not only to get the job done, but also to perform in races. This year I competed all over the world, from Switzerland to Denmark, in Mexico and throughout North America.

Name a childhood memory involving bikes. “As a kid growing up in New Hampshire my posse and I rode everyday. Like most children I was involved in lots of extracurricular activities from soccer to learning how to be a flutist. The latter, like many things in our house, was to be taken seriously…..

Meg sports an orange Wabi Lightning SE named Pumpkin Spicy, which is the first bike she purchased following years of loaners.
Now that she has ditched the ill-fitting hand-me-downs, Meg’s biggest challenge is her strict diet.
After growing up vegetarian, Meg went vegan about two years ago.

Endangered Species is the eagerly-awaited full-length album from Wolf + Lamb's musically virtuosic No Regular Play, a duo equally at home in the rehearsal rooms of Julliard as in the main room of Fabric. Their debut album was made in early summer 2012, exclusively in the studio of New York City's Marcy Hotel. Over the course of 11 elegantly interlaced tracks, Greg Paulus and Nicholas DeBruyn create a veritable cornucopia of beautiful forms. A steaming hothouse of closed high-hats, rife with the plaintive, fluttering bird-calls of Paulus' inimitable trumpet lines, and unapologetically organic throughout, Endangered Species is as shape-shifting as nature itself. Endangered Species also includes guest spots from close friends Carolina Sevilla and Lisa Bauer on opening track "Birdfeathers." Alex Scherber aka John Camp, contributes additional keys on "Birdfeathers" and the title track. "The Answer" features vocals and piano from Eliot Cardinaux, a fellow alumnus of Greg's from the Manhattan School of Music. JT Bates, the prolific Minneapolis free jazz and indie drummer, recorded live drums on "Kickback." Mixing for the album was done by musician/producer Francis Harris. The project was mastered by the legend, Joe Lambert, who has also worked with the likes of Animal Collective, Washed Out and Dirty Projectors.
Some wild extremes make up the whole that is Wolf + Lamb. Extrovert and introvert, vegan and carnivore, cancer survivor and social saboteur – you’d expect no partnership like this could last for long. But for over a decade, these differences have only sparked the seismic energies that Zev and Gadi bring to dance music. They’ve never cared much for current convention – for being “fast enough”, “hard enough”, or “cool enough” to win favor with the party culture hype machine. They play passionate music that moves hearts, and not just feet. From their subterranean throwdowns in their Brooklyn corner known as the Marcy Hotel, to the 2005 founding and continued expansion of their family of labels, amid the warm winters and electric environs of Miami – it’s always been about the two of them enjoying life, learning to live with each other, and making friends and fans that become part of the family.
And of course, they think the game is best when it’s not taken too seriously – a bit of foolishness, on the sly, colors everything about Wolf + Lamb. House music maestros and hip-hop horticulturalists; desert communitarians and urban nomads; savvy entrepreneurs and autonomous anarchic creators, Gadi and Zev shift seamlessly between these roles. As music makers, the two draw as much inspiration from their label cohorts as they do from each other, which makes for a definitive dose of the Wolf + Lamb aesthetic in their upcoming album, to be released in summer of 2012.
From Zev’s savvy design and production, to Gadi’s talent for sniffing out path breaking artists to bring into the fold, there’s a knack they have for making it all hold together. And that means Wolf + Lamb is a home to the artists that thrive on its mantra: Deniz Kurtel, Nicolas Jaar, No Regular Play, Soul Clap, Voices of Black, Tanner Ross, Slow Hands, and more. For Gadi and Zev, nothing could be better than being in this bustling world among these friends, orchestrating the sounds and sights of the moment, and always looking forward to what’s yet to come.
